the day we decided to raise future comicon attendees.

a good six to nine months before this halloween, our kids decided they wanted to dress up as characters from the hobbit.  finn kept begging me to make his thorin costume so he could "just wear it around the house."  (and, wear it around the house, he has quite a bit since).  so, for the past month i have been knee deep in all sorts of sewing, crafting, hobbit-inspired insanity.  i'm not going to lie though... i loved it.  (i probably owe a big thanks to the cosplay community for all their tutorials, photos and general inspiration).  the speiers hosted a pre-halloween hobbit party at their house, so the kids could dress up and play around in their costumes without all the craziness that goes with halloween night.  so, for those who know the hobbit, this doesn't require much explanation, but for any who are completely confused, here are some names to confuse you some more...

thorin oakenshield...

bilbo baggins...

random hobbit girl... (sorry, dot)

bombur...

bofur...

fili...

and kili (at your service)...

galadriel...

legolas...

tauriel...

the (the cutest little) smaug...

Mary - are you glad its done so you can start again for next year already????

Guys - this is really amazing. They are going to have the best memories of all the amazing Halloween's that they had as little kids. Great job. You are motivating me to kick it up a notch for next year.
