once upon a time...

charlotte burch turned 8 years old and had a fantastic karaoke birthday party.

mary's friend amy brought some kids guitars for props to let the kids play with. once we let george and finn try them on, we had a hard time getting george or finn to play with anything else (much less share with anyone else).  they legitimately thought they were the real deal (clearly george would be the lead, as he is awful fond of singing as well...).  that was last november.  i am going to post the pictures now anyway, even if it is 4 months too late.  so someday, when they are in high school and want to start a band i can pull out these pictures and show them how cute they were.  they will love that, i bet...

luckily they brought out the cupcakes, so the guitars were ditched and other kids were able to have a turn...

for as long as it took each boy to shove a cupcake in his mouth, ask for another, get rejected, be forced to wash his hands and then run (possibly sprint) back for more guitar.

a phoenix snow day

thoughtful and original G.G. ordered snow for the kids in honor of the three march birthdays in the family (jack, luke and ruby).  we had scones, eggs, donuts, coffee, bagels, fruit and then some, as well as a whole crowd of kids climbing on, sliding down, throwing and eating snow.  it was a grand time.  for some reason my camera only made it out before everyone else got there and after they all left, so it looks like only my kids, but i assure you, we had quite a crowd.

finn was very excited to practice his snowboarding skills on real snow...

i did manage to snap a quick picture of my sweet and smiley little Godson, declan...

after all the kids were on their way, baabee and grandad stopped by and came up with all sorts of new fun to be had in the snow.  like sledding on a shovel "it's-a-wonderful-life style"...

my own personal highlight was when baabee decided to give it a try...

grandad and baabee also dug a nice tunnel through the entire middle of the snow heap and then made up a game in which you lay on a cookie tray (it started as an old pizza box) and get pulled through by the handle of the shovel.

and, of course, jack was thrilled to bust out his new legos and create a scene on the ice planet, hoth...

thanks again, GG!

the real day

i promise this will be the last of the st. patrick's day posts until next year, but it is what it is.  we had to celebrate a little on the actual day, as well...
the kids had a little treasure hunt for their pot of gold...

mary and zach brought over corned beef for dinner.  i decided since potatoes are a very irish food i would make potato salad...

and i didn't know what to do with cabbage, so i decided on brussel sprouts.  they kind of look like mini-cabbage...

and thanks to sara's recipe, we made irish soda bread.  lucy put cinnamon in hers and we glazed it and ate it with breakfast.  kind of an "irish cinnamon roll."

and we had our last family dinner in the pub...

and got a final family picture on the photo wall...

hope everyone enjoyed this irish holiday as much as we did!

not sure what's going on...

my blog is being really strange lately with dates.  for some reason, it decided to throw this old post up to the front.  not sure what's up...  perhaps i need to quit this whole blogging thing...

st. patrick's day card out-takes

we weren't too worried about lucy doing a serious/grumpy face for the picture...

we are more concerned about encouraging it...

Cheers!

oh, and happy st. joseph's day, of course!
