4 weeks of the winter olympics

yes, i realize the closing ceremony for the 2010 winter olympics was well over a week ago now.  and, yes, i realize that the olympics only, in fact, last for two weeks.  however, they have been going strong in the burch house ever since the closing ceremony and i think it is a safe bet they will continue through this week.  our kids have some hard core olympic fever.  two of the three have never even seen snow, but for the time being our living room couch with a white sheet thrown over it has been a perfectly acceptable substitute for an actual snow covered mountain.  let me introduce to you some of the 2010 winter olympians that have frequented our little white mountain (or skating rink, or bobsled run, or medal podium, or whatever you needed it to be at that moment)...

our own little flying tomato (with some extra long "red hair")...

bode miller (yes, that would be stubble on his chin.  yes, that would have been jack that insisted on that added detail)...

lindsey vonn...

apolo ohno...

steve holcomb (i am pretty sure the rest of the US bobsled team is back behind him somewhere...)...

tessa virtue and scott moir, the canadian ice dancers who won gold (poor lucy was not able to see any of the woman's figure skating due to the late hour nbc chose to view it.  with lucy's self-inflicted early bedtime, it wasn't meant to be.  she did however see this performance by the gold medal canadian pair and has been obsessing over it ever since)...

seth wescott...

shani davis...

lindsey jacobellis...

and a final farewell from shaun white (his hair sure does grow fast)...

looking at these pictures i realize my kids definitely seemed to pick up on all the yelling done by those that won... oh, well.
so, now a lovely laundry basket of "olympic dress-up" lives in our living room next to our snowy mountain couch.  g.g. and grandad loaned the kids a real pair of ski poles, so most free-time is spent playing olympics these days.  i also love that goggles have found a place as props, not only in the summer olympics, but the winter olympics as well...  serious good times.
the big sports to watch in our house this year were any skiing, any snowboarding, any skating races and the four-man bobsled.  we miss watching the winter olympics, but that olympic fever has yet to die... as you can see.

now the countdown to the summer 2012 olympics begins!

I love how creative your kids are! And their attention to detail, of course. What fun!

BEST.THING.EVER!!
I obviously should have been hanging out at the Burch house during the Olympics because I think I just found the only people who were as obsessed as I was. I'm having some serious withdrawal, so I really appreciated this recap of all the great highlights. Well done USA!

Seriously?! This is so great. I can't believe I missed this. I can't wait to have kids to dress up like Olympians.
