merry christmas, happy boxing day and happy new year!

dressed in their sunday best for dinner at grandma sherrick's and christmas eve mass...

looking longingly at the presents they get to open that night...

enjoying family at grandma and grandpa sherrick's house...

goose with a goose (we are so hilarious)...

and (finally!) christmas morning!
pete sported his christmas onesie once again (one of the most important traditions in our house).
this year the kids thought it was extra funny for some reason...
(and i do not apologize for posting this stupid picture of pete, as he intentionally made that face as i was taking the picture... so that's what you get).

finn was ever-so-excited to finally place baby Jesus in the manger.  then the kids sang happy birthday to Jesus with a little cupcake to celebrate.  finn almost forgot that santa had come, as his excitement over having a cupcake in the morning was almost more than he could handle...

but santa did not disappoint, and the football field finn had been obsessing over was waiting there for him...

pete, being the absolutely hysterical person he is (he obviously cracks himself up) decided to wrap up some of his clean laundry the night before (as we were wrapping presents and doing laundry) and wrote on the tag "to dad, from dad."  jack picked it up and read the tag, with a super confused look on his face, and said, "i don't get it."  pete acted super excited as he opened it, saying things like, "my boxers!  i love these boxers!"  lucy giggled uncontrollably and jack just looked at pete with an expression that seemed to say, "you are such an idiot."

on to boxing day, which we celebrate with a big feast, poppers and party hats.  this year we had what jack deemed a boxing day miracle... our first chicken egg.

although a little blurry, i was there for it all as well...

seeing as i probably won't get around to much more blogging this week, i hope everyone has a wonderful new year's eve and a very happy new year!

cookies with baabee

on with the traditions...
this is actually a taber family tradition, thus baabee helps carry it on with my kids.  the baking of shortbread cookies at christmas time.  my dad's mom's mom's shortbread cookie recipe, to be exact.  i remember loving making this as a kid, primarily because you get to dig your hands in to the dough and mix it all together.  lucy seems to love this, as well, as she was the only one who participated last year (was she really that little just one year ago?) and the only one who stuck around for the whole process this year (finn got a little grossed out after about 2 minutes and needed to wash his hands)...

finn decided just to watch the rest of the time from the sidelines with his clean hands and mustache...

and where was jack?  well, the cardinals game and an afternoon nap on the couch were calling his name instead...

jingle bells

all my kids absolutely loved the barenaked ladies version of jingle bells this year, but especially finn.  we would play christmas music in the kitchen on the computer and every time that song came on, finn would run in from wherever he was in the house and dance like a crazy person, as close to the music as he could be.  it made me laugh every. single. time.  i don't ever want to forget it...

two days!

the house is decorated, the presents are wrapped and we are eagerly awaiting santa...

stockings are hung by the chimney piano (someday we'll have a fireplace) with care (hopefully, the people on the stockings will have faces by next year... this year i was just happy to have them finished and hanging up...)

we enjoyed advent a bit excessively this year, as we had a little elf with a treat in one of his pockets for every day...

and our usual advent chain, that contains a clue that leads us to a note announcing a chore or sacrifice or fun happening for that day...

and now, we wait...
