mr. finn's first haircut

last week we were sitting at my dad's house and finn's hair was looking like the normal feathery chicken fuzz that it always does.  out of nowhere, baabee asks, "hey, finn.  can i cut your hair?"  finn jumped up from playing trains and said, "yeah!  me have crazy hair like you."  (although you would think finn's current hair was "crazy," ever since my dad cut his hair short finn had been referring to that as "crazy"... not really sure why.  anyway, now finn was excited to have short "crazy" hair).  so finn sat out back on a stool and did not move even half a centimeter while baabee cut his hair with the clippers

oooh, now he looks like a little boy instead of my baby... dirty face, chipped teeth and all...

F.I.N.N.

"that spells me!"

lucy taught finn how to spell his name and now he likes to say it all the time.  "F.I.N.N."
and, yes, he has ranch dressing all over his face.  we like 'em nice and messy.

our own little home tour

so, i was thinking the other day (and after taking pictures of our playroom) that i wanted to go around and take pictures of all the rooms in our house so my kids would have them to look back on and either see how our house has changed over the years or remember the house they used to live in (just in case, you know).  i love finding pictures of our childhood homes.  they seem to spark memories that i didn't remember i had.  i especially love coming across pictures of this house from when i was a kid and to see how much has changed.  the only problem with this plan is having to clean everything before i take the pictures, not to mention how long it would take... therefore, i am starting my own little series.  you already saw our playroom, now i will begin with the front of our house... hope you enjoy.  and, if you don't, then move along... i'm doing this for my kids, not you.  geez...

the same front door from my childhood and st. francis watching over us all...

apples from jack's tree...

once upon a time, someone stuck darth vader on a little twig sticking out of this tree.  now he lives here through rain and shine...

the end.

new hutch and a clean playroom

so, i know i am a huge dork, but getting things organized makes me really happy.  my latest job has been getting our playroom more organized, primarily the kids arts and crafts stuff.  we have had stacks of coloring books and stickers and construction paper just piled on our little table for ages, which leaves little room to actually create and as soon as someone grabs something from underneath any one pile, all the piles come crashing down, thus causing my kids to somewhat avoid it altogether.  then this beautiful hutch entered my life and our organizing began...

basketball

for the present, it seems finn has moved on from baseball to basketball.  he plays on our back patio for endless amounts of time shooting any ball he can find into this hoop.  and when he misses he, without a doubt, says, "aw-most!"

he does have a killer stance, though...

lucy's dollhouse

my sister mary and my dad gave lucy this dollhouse for christmas.  it used to be mary's, but she painted it pink and passed it on to lucy.  needless to say, it was a huge hit.  the inside was totally white and i decided to let lucy choose all the interior decorations.  since it already had an eclectic mix of folks hanging out inside, it seemed only appropriate to follow this theme...

we went to michael's one day and i let her pick out paint colors for all the rooms and for the few wooden pieces of furniture that baabee gave her.  then she went through my fabric scraps and chose different flooring for each room.  i think she may have a future in interior design...

painted toes

lucy is oddly obsessed with painting her fingernails and toenails.  she always wants me to paint mine too, but for some reason i cannot stand having polish on my fingers.  i feel like it chips within minutes and then i never get around to fixing it or removing it and then i walk around for a week looking super trashy. so, last week we painted our toes.  this i don't mind quite as much and lucy was so excited about it.  it was a good reminder that i should do more things that i don't really care for, but also don't mind, for the sake of my kids.  they are so easy to please if only we are willing to take the time.

one of those days...

back from dallas with tons of laundry and grumpy kids.  this morning at 7:45 (when we usually leave for school) jack decided he needed to "use" the restroom.  lucy almost simultaneously comes running around the corner in need of the restroom as well and then breaks down crying because she doesn't want to use the other bathroom, she only wants to use her bathroom.  and then in walks finn to tell me he has a poopy diaper.  seriously?  no, really?  how is this possible?  did someone drop a laxative into your smoothies this morning?  anyway, once everyone had taken care of their business we speed off to school.  i couldn't help but think it was not going to be a very good day...  then, magically, our day was saved when a package from laurie arrived in the mail...

oh, and lucy likes to tell everyone that she just learned how to wink.  humor her, geez, she's only three...

thank you, laurie.

oh, and there are some mysterious hidden posts that showed up below "jack's prayers"...

jack's prayers

since emily is off visiting her friends in dallas, i figured i would post something so that our loyal readers don't get too upset.

yesterday jack asked about when football season starts up again.  i told him not until the fall, but the draft is this weekend.  he then asked a bunch of questions about the draft and i explained to him how it works.  so last night as we were finishing up our prayers before bed, jack said, "and for all the poor people, so that they can get money....and....so that the cardinals don't trade anquan boldin."  sadly i don't think his prayers will be answered.....but that's ok, he already decided that if it happens, then larry fitzgerald can be his new favorite player.

Vacation Journal - Balboa: Day Four, Easter!

excited to hunt for eggs, intense hunting mode and digging through the loot...

my kids are obsessed with the house that has a dinosaur out front (yes, this is just in some random persons front yard.  i have no idea why...).  jack and finn always want to go see it and lucy has a strange fascination/horror deal going on with it.    while on our walk to the "dinosaur house" (i know, again with the creative names we give things...), our kids played the game where they read or guess all the street names.  finn loves to point to g.g.'s street and say, "that say diamond."  lucy somehow knows all the ones leading up to diamond by heart.  pete and i couldn't help laugh as she was reciting them, however, because she kept telling us the street right before diamond was "pacifier" (it is, in fact, sapphire).

and speaking of lucy's common mistakes with words, here is a picture of jack with the statue of delivery..

yes, that is all drool on finn's shirt...

sometimes it seems the most fun at the beach is had when you wander there by accident without lugging all the gear.  we played til the sun went down, then headed back to the house where (after baths) we watched sound of music by "the hotteness" (lucy's made-up word for the fire).
the end.
