oh, gingerbread!

graham cracker "gingerbread" houses that is (or no-bake cottages as martha stewart calls them)...

and lucy was really good about not sampling too much candy (she was not actually good about this at all)...

of all my kids, finn spent by far the most time working on his (it might have been in part because nanny bird was sitting across from him and finn discovered his love for nanny this day and has not stopped talking about her since)...

finn also thoroughly enjoyed making it snow on his house.  it was actually more of a blizzard...

here is a sampling of some of the 20 houses made that day...

next year i am going to direct them in the art of modern gingerbread houses like this...

we put all the extra candy to good use with another one of my favorite christmas traditions (do we have too many traditions?  shut your mouth, pete, no one asked you...) our cake train...

lucy worked hard making these very precise "trees" that all followed the exact same pattern of candy order and color.  you can see her organized piles and intense work face above.

then finn started flashing me gang signs...

and then rolled his eyes at me for how lame i was with that "gang signs" joke...

after dumping the remaining "snow" on the train (there really wasn't much left after finn's earlier snowstorm), finn insisted i take a picture of everyone yelling "snow!"  clearly, he's the most in to it...
