distractions

lucy is hands down one of the best kids i have ever met at coming up with a distraction from what she is actually supposed to be doing.  the funny thing is that half the time i think she truly gets distracted from the task at hand (the other half she is trying hard to avoid whatever chore she has been given).  it is as if something shiny catches her eye and her mind goes blank.  the other morning i asked her to clean up the playroom.  after not hearing from her for a while i went to check on her only to find her sitting in the midst of a very messy playroom.  clearly no attempt had even been made to start cleaning up.  i asked her what she was doing.  she was organizing magnets by color and if she could find a coordinating plate she would put those colors on that matching plate.  like this...

i was very impressed and not actually mad, but i still had to ask her, "what were you supposed to be doing?"  blank.  she had no idea...
