there is just something about...

holiday decorations.

my kids get insanely excited over putting up old decorations or making new ones.  and, i must admit, i love it myself.  my mom loved holidays when we were kids.  she would always pull out holiday decorations and do different little things to make every single holiday so special.  i remember being so excited about our decorations or about donuts for breakfast or whatever little tradition we had for that holiday.  and, as an adult, it is amazing how much those memories stay with you.  so, we have busted out the old decorations and my kids are hard at work on new ones...

these spiders crack me up because jack and lili speier made them when they were about three from styrofoam balls and they are hands down the favorite decoration in our house.  they are falling apart (we've had to toss a few already over the years) and the sad old cobwebs are just as old and kind of lost their ability to stretch and look like cobwebs anymore.  my kids still love to hang them up though...

it is funny to me that since we do not have a fireplace and mantle, we naturally decorate our piano.  not sure why, but somehow it seems like the next best thing.  (it can be a little sad, however, when that is where we hang our christmas stockings...)  i was looking at it the other day and decided i want a mirror to hang over it.  then i decided i want a cool, old vintage mirror.  this led to the decision that a trip to the flea market is a must.  what do you think, pete?  anyone else up for it?  then, someday, when we have a fireplace, we can hang our cool mirror over that...

by the way, lucy and i made that halloween sign last year from this free download and some orange string, if anyone is interested.  they give you the whole alphabet, so you could make all sorts of signs...

have a lovely weekend.
go yankees.
