another year has begun...

jack started first grade yesterday and i can hardly believe it. it seems like just yesterday he was a little two year old singing songs to his baby sister, spending every part of his day with me. and now he spends more of the day gone than home. i was talking to a mom the other day whose older kids play sports and she said they get dropped off at 7:30 at school and picked up after practice at 6:00. how do we do this as parents? spend every moment with them from birth up to the day we just hand them over to someone else for majority of their time? i think i am having a harder time with full-day school than i thought...

all in all, i do think it is a good thing. jack came home yesterday so excited about first grade and seeing all his friends again. for someone who is naturally such a homebody i think school is very good for jack. he was reluctant to go, but came home so happy and is dying for next week to come so he can start getting homework (i am assuming i will have to remind him of this excitement in a few years when the novelty of homework has worn off). i do love his school and he has such sweet kids in his class, so i do have to count my blessings. even if i do have a hard time letting go...

the biggest excitement for jack leading up to this school year was the purchase of a new backpack (below) and lunch box (not pictured). he couldn't wait to get home and put all his buttons and his joe ninja (from frances) on his new blue and gray backpack. he insisted we post a picture...

He looks so handsome in his uniform. I am glad he is likeing school. It is always so hard to get used to having them gone all day.

Too cute! And too funny, Alex has the same back pack and he too is putting pins on that front of his pack (he's never done this before). So happy to see that Jack is enjoying 1st grade. How cute is he all dressed up and in a tie. You just want to eat him up!
