Weekend Trip Journal - Balboa: Day 1 - Pete and Carol's Wedding

we headed back to balboa the weekend of the 15th to see our chicago burches and attend the wedding of peter white and carol kewell. the wedding ceremony was at the beautiful church in san juan capistrano which all my kids said was "the coolest" church they had ever been to (lucy also said beautiful, but cool was the most widely agreed upon adjective...). it was a beautiful latin mass, and amazingly my kids were good for the entire two hours. i am not sure how much they paid attention, but they were quiet and well-behaved, which is all i can really ask for at this stage of life. some questions i received during the mass might show where their little minds were... jack asked, "when do i get to have my mimi day?" "we can talk about that later..." lucy wanted to know, "when we get back to phoenix can i wear my laurie dress?" "we'll talk about it after mass..." then finn (who miraculously slept through most of it) woke up and immediately wanted to know, "where's donald?" (as in duck). then finn walked with me up to the altar and knelt beside me as i received communion only to ask/yell, "i didn't get one of those!" oh, well. all in all, everyone was wonderful and the bride and groom seemed so very happy...
then we were off to the reception at the amazing montage resort...

the color of the evening was blue, complete with blue water for the flowers and blue martinis for the guests. my kids (and i) give rave reviews for the cocktail hour on the lawn overlooking the ocean. you really can't go wrong with grass to run in, a perfect ocean view and snacks and drinks at your beckon call...

being able to tackle your brother in the midst of a wedding reception definitely makes it climb the charts on levels of awesomeness...
lucy dancing with her "favorite guy" from that night (which she has repeatedly told me since)...

at one point i found lucy sitting on a bench next to the dance floor, dreamily watching people dance. i asked who she was watching and she pointed to therese junker dancing in (of course) a pink dress. "isn't she beautiful?" lucy said. this following her comment that morning on bridget's pink dress, "everyone looks so pretty, but especially bridget. bridget looks beautiful." and her mean old mom dressed her in black and white stripes... at least she got a pink bow...

later that evening lucy was talking about how she wanted to go to chicago for her fifth birthday to visit her cousins. jack said, "don't you want to go to new york, lucy. new york is so much fun and you could go to central park and see the yankees and the statue of liberty and..." to which lucy feistily interrupted, "i not going to yew nork!" (we need to work on her speech a bit...)

it was a good night indeed...
