Vacation Journal - Balboa: 4th of July!

Happy Fourth of July!

we were off to balboa again this year for the 4th of July with the entire Burch family. too much fun was had, as always, and i am sure these are the memories my kids will hold on to forever. family, beach, fireworks, food, cousins and endless hours and days of playing... like i said, too much fun... jack and lucy are already talking about and making plans for next year...

jack with his prized possession... his american flag cake made with berries and whipped cream. if we had let him, i am fairly certain he would have eaten the entire thing himself.

fun at the beach...

finn trying to shoot me with some garbage he found on the beach. this kid is the biggest beach bum. i don't think he would ever go inside unless we made him. he loves the water, loves the sand, loves the seagulls, loves the garbage that the wind blows by... endless hours of entertainment. playing in the waves with finn, we were never far enough out. grandad or al would swim by and head way out into the huge waves and finn would obsess over them, repeatedly telling me, "i wanna go out dere (rhymes with "there")!"

and for some reason this year, the big obsession with the little boys was laying and literally rolling in the sand. finn would lay cheek down, as if the sand was a nice cozy pillow (this mixed with his drool always made for some sort of nice sand/mud goatee...). mary put it ever so perfectly when she said, "they come in looking like a sugar coated donut." i don't think you could more evenly coat them with sand if you tried. and their ears... oh, my. absolutely gross. but they probably had more fun than anybody...

these two cousin crack me up so much whenever they are together... i hope they always have this much fun with each other...

finn getting cozy with his Godmother...

pete made up a burch family trivia game, in which he surveyed all the adults in the family and created a board game based on their answers... it was hilarious. and clever, of course. after all, look who made it...

after a fabulous day of laying in the sand (mostly by finn) and playing in the waves, we had a delicious dinner, watched fireworks on the beach and stayed up way too late. it was another perfect 4th of July...
g.g. and grandad, how can we ever thank you enough?
